Pilgrims

pilgrim: one who journeys in foreign lands

I am thankful for pilgrims.

Last night, I was reading something Little Bit brought home from school about the Pilgrims and Puritans leaving England for the sake of religious freedom. I’ve heard about their journeys since the beginning of my own education, but it struck me last night what important decisions their trips to the “New World” were.

There is no way to know the true motives of everyone who traveled on the Mayflower, but I believe at least some of them were truly seeking the will of the Lord. Godly men and women were trying to take their families to a place where they could worship in spirit and truth, not having to follow the formal order of worship dictated by man’s authority.

I am thankful that I am still experiencing this freedom today, as a result of pilgrims all the way back to Abraham. I am thankful for the pilgrims of this present time who step out of their comfort zones to go where the Lord leads and find ways for His people to flourish. I don’t know that the Lord will ever ask me to live on a different continent, but I hope to be a pilgrim in whatever way He asks.
