And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
Romans 5:3-4
I am thankful for struggles. I know that doesn’t seem like the most joyful item to end this thirty days on, but I really mean it. If you read the above verses, tribulation is just the first part. Patience, experience, and hope are all good things, right?!
Sometimes struggles are just the little everyday trials that can wear us down. Like the washing machine not working, the time and technology issues of writing this blog, or buttermilk exploding all over the kitchen (true story…so gross). I know these minor mishaps teach me to be more patient and not sweat the small stuff, to focus on what’s important.
Sometimes the struggles are more serious and difficult. Major life events we can’t imagine surviving, but with the Lord’s help we do. He has never failed me, and I know that His grace is sufficient.
Oftentimes the struggle is within myself, battling thoughts and desires that would hinder my walk with God. But I don’t have to fight those battles alone. I have the Word and God’s Holy Spirit to guide me, and prayer to see me through. And all of this teaches me to avoid a lot of the things that get me in a mess in the first place.
Every struggle I’ve had to face and overcome gives me hope and assurance that the Lord will see me through until the end, and one day all the burdens will be lifted. I thank Him for this promise!
And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
