“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
II Timothy 3:15,16
This week, Little Bit and I finished her first read-through of the Bible! It makes my heart so glad to know that she has heard every word of The Word. Even at her young age, I am amazed at how much she remembers and some of the thoughts and questions she has. When we were reading the last two chapters of Revelation and talking about how awesome it will be to see Jesus, she added, “and the disciples!”
We started reading the Bible at breakfast every morning (almost) not very long after she was born. It was a struggle at first, especially during the sleep deprivation stage when I could barely hold my eyes open. And I’m still teaching her how to listen respectfully (she’s there most days). But I know that it’s the most important reading we will ever do. I am all about books and learning, but no other study comes close to being as beneficial.
The Bible is so much more than just words on a page. Every Word is straight from God, and I am so humbled and amazed that we have the opportunity to read His Words any time we want. I don’t want to take that for granted. And I want to instill love and appreciation for the Bible into our little girl, so that she will know where to turn when she needs guidance. I want her to read for herself someday and feel God’s Holy Spirit speaking through the pages. I want her to be equipped, when the time comes, to pick up the Sword and fight the good fight without hesitation.
So, we will keep reading and studying and growing together in the hope that one day we will both see Jesus and the disciples!!
