And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
I Timothy 6:8
I am thankful for food! We definitely do not go hungry in this house. We are blessed with so many delicious choices to fuel our bodies. I’m ashamed when I search for a snack and “can’t find anything.” Even when I delay buying groceries to use up what we have, we have never run out of food or lacked something to sustain us. If the scales are any indication, we actually have a surplus and could do with a lot less.
I love cooking for my little family and seeing them gobble up their favorite foods. I enjoy sharing food with friends, whether it’s a church feast in the fellowship hall, pizza on a Friday night, baked goods to help someone feel better, or a meal at a restaurant table where someone else does the dishes. The cozy smell of cookies baking and the mouthwatering aroma of a roast in the crock pot both bring a smile to my face. And I love letting Little Bit help and learn in the kitchen (she’s still at the sweet stage where even putting her hand on my arm while I’m stirring qualifies as helping).
And if the day comes when food is not so readily available, I know the Lord will still provide enough. There are so many examples of this in the Bible: manna in the wilderness, Elijah and the ravens, the widow’s oil and meal, Jesus feeding the five thousand…God is still the same God!!
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
