Let all things be done decently and in order.
1 Corinthians 14:40
I am thankful for order. I like when things have a home and I know where to find them quickly and where to put them away easily when I’m done. I think things look nice when they are neatly arranged, with some sort of balance or pattern. And I do find myself arranging things that do not matter in the least, just because I can. I’ve noticed it before, but today Little Bit showed just how much she’s picked up on this habit. While playing with a couple different games today, she was lining the pieces up in neat little rows that were totally unnecessary to the game, but it looked very nice!
While some things being in order is just silly, I am thankful that there are things that the Lord has set in order in His Word that let me know how to conduct myself and align my life with His plan.
For example, putting God first:
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:33
Putting others before myself:
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
Romans 12:10
How my family should function:
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
Colossians 3:18-20
These are just a few examples, but all the answers are in the Bible, and I am so thankful I don’t have to figure it all out on my own. And while it makes me happy when my canned goods are all stacked in order, there is no comparison to the harmony in our home when our lives are lined up with God’s Word!
