Over the past few days, leading up to yesterday, Little Bit and I read some of the accounts of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection from the four gospels. We talked about different points, but our main focus was the three days.
- Day One: Jesus died on the cross and was buried.
- Day Two: The disciples waited, while soldiers guarded the tomb.
- Day Three: Jesus is alive again.
She would tell this back to me, holding up a finger for each day. After a couple times, she looked at me and asked, “What about day four?”
It took me a moment to process, but then I about lost it. She was exactly right! The story does not end on day three. Jesus is still alive and still changing lives with His resurrection power. Day three was only the beginning!! So, eventually my answer to her was:
- Day Four: Go and Tell
The angel at the tomb told the women, “And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead;” (from Matthew 28:7). And before he ascended, Jesus told His disciples:
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Matthew 28:19,20
From Acts to Revelation, the Bible gives accounts of how followers of Jesus told others the good news and lived their lives according to Jesus’ commands, and instructs Christians how to do the same. Anyone who has witnessed the resurrection power of Jesus, been washed by His blood and made whole, has a responsibility to share the gospel with others.
That’s what I hope to do here on this blog, tell how Jesus is alive and that trusting Him is the only way to truly live. I don’t want to be like the soldiers who were bribed to keep the truth about the resurrection of Jesus quiet. There is nothing in the world more valuable than knowing and sharing that Jesus is alive and His Spirit dwells in me.
