The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments : his praise endureth for ever.
Psalm 111:10
I am thankful for fear. Not the kind of fear that makes me squeal at spiders or hug the side of a mountain, but the kind of fear that keeps me close to Jesus.
This morning while fixing breakfast, one of my knuckles just barely touched a hot pan. It wasn’t enough to even leave a mark, but it was enough to remind me that I don’t like being burned. Then I thought of hell, and how much I don’t want to go there. So, I am thankful for the fear that heaven and hell are real and that God on His throne is in charge of who goes there. And the fear that there are consequences for disobeying God’s Word. These are good fears that make me want to follow Jesus and stay with Him, because I know I would be lost on my own.
